Why Ritter Center?

  1. The economic downturn has driven more low-income families to Ritter Center for essential supplies and services.
  2. Homeless and low-income clients who have relied on Ritter Center for basic survival feel more desperation and hopelessness.
  3. Ritter Center has the facility and experience to respond to the needs of those with limited options…but relies on the abundant resources and goodwill of the Marin community.

Ending Homelessness is Possible.
The Status Quo for homelessness is a coping strategy that, over time, proves ineffective and ultimately more expensive in dollars and resources. One homeless alcoholic cost the taxpayers of Nevada $1 million in medical and related services over the course of a decade.

“It cost us one million dollars not to do something about Murray.”

“Million-Dollar Murray — Why problems like homelessness may be easier to solve than to manage.”
by Malcolm Gladwell

Many communities around the nation have strategies in place now
that are working...significantly and systematically reducing homelessness.

How Will Ritter Invest Proceeds?

  1. Expand basic services and support of food, clothing, financial assistance for housing and employment, including important case management.
  2. Increase current Health Clinic hours and capacity to provide better care and assistance for the under-served, under-insured or uninsured.
  3. Begin the process of finding the “Future Home” for Ritter Center when the lease ends in the next 5 years.
  4. Actively address fiscally responsible solutions and humanitarian outcomes by collaborating with community leaders and partners to end homelessness.
